Faceted Navigation

Faceted Navigation can be used in the search results page to present the user with options with which to refine their search. This enhances the user-experience by helping them to find the information they’re looking for faster.

Faceted Navigation uses structured information, such as metadata, to filter search results by any number of factors such as file types, language, site section, repository etc. It is easy to set up via Funnelback's administration interface.

In the below screenshot from the Digital UK website, the user's search results are presented alongside filtering options (highlighted in orange) which include file type and region. Additional filtering options are provided as tabs at the top of the results, breaking down the results by site sections.
