Oxford University Press Launches E-Commerce Search by Funnelback
Oxford University Press has launched a new website search service that is powered by Funnelback Search.
This is a fully hosted e-commerce search service that Funnelback provides to Oxford University Press.
According to OUP Managing Director, Peter van Noorden, “The new Funnelback search service enables our customers to accurately and quickly find what they are looking for. Oxford University Press has tens of thousands of educational titles and the new search facility really helps educators accurately pinpoint the most pertinent learning materials.”
Mr. Stuart Beil, Executive Director of Funnelback said, “Oxford University Press had a number of custom requirements around the way search ranking worked. These requirements included optimisation of inventory control and ranking of results depending on whether and where a book was in stock and ways of enabling books to be printed and orders met even if they were not in stock”.
The search service is integrated with the Squiz Matrix Content Management System (CMS) developed by Squiz.
In the search service, thumbnail images or books are brought in via an external provider and the content, including metadata, is crawled by Funnelback from the Squiz Matrix CMS. Both content and images are then combined in XML and indexed together by Funnelback. This enables additional sophisticated search features such as Facets by Category, Author and Format to be presented, thus enabling structured browsing and refining of search results.
